Statement Regarding the Recent Arrest of a Mentor Fourth Grade Teacher
Sadly, another national headline has reached our doorsteps. Our prayers go out to those affected by this arrest, especially families whose children are now forced to comprehend something far too heavy for any adult…much less a child. We hope and pray that there are no victims of this despicable behavior.
Parents, this is a reminder to all of us about the dangers electronic devices present to our children. Being ever vigilant and aware is a vital part of being a good parent or guardian to our young children. This teacher was arrested for engaging in "sexually explicit online conversations" with officers posing as children.
A huge thank you to the brave men and women at the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, and local law enforcement agencies who assisted ICAC in bringing these child exploitation offenders to justice.
We will never stop fighting to protect the innocence of children and parental rights in our schools. School boards must create policies that are proactive in protecting students from the unimaginable risks that our youth face every day. The reality that a fourth-grade teacher in our district was among the predators arrested in this sting operation proves that we need strict policy now, more than ever.
Wall and Marchaza support the current open bathroom policy in our schools, and this is an example of bad policy that exposes students to unsafe environments. If they are elected, they will continue supporting unrestricted restroom and locker room use that we believe put our students in jeopardy. The district does not need policies that will put our students’ safety at risk.
Strengthening the Mentor High School Career Pipeline
We believe that students in the CTE program who wish to immediately enter the workforce can secure employment prior to graduation.
A school-to-work pipeline would benefit these students. This would also benefit the city, as there is a major need for skilled workers.
How can this be accomplished?
Given the current demand for technically skilled individuals and number of students currently waitlisted, the district must expand the already successful CTE programs. We have a number of suggestions to bolster the current success this program is enjoying.
It is our belief, we need to grow the current advisory council with local industry leaders and retired professionals who can expand the offerings and advise the board, administration and parents on the various careers available that are in high demand. In addition, they can offer their insight on how to best navigate a path forward.
It would be a net benefit to all sponsoring regular Parent & Industry Conferences, to help better explain the virtues & benefits of entering the technical fields of Aviation, Medicine, Sales, Quality Assurance, Construction, Plumbing, HVAC, Transportation, Semi-Conductors – just to name a few.
Establish school/work study programs between industry and educational institutions, in the hopes of compressing the time between H.S. graduation and becoming competent in a given career. Career labs are already being tested and must aggressively be expanded.
Equally important, our students must develop their soft skills. Learning how to be interviewed by a potential employer, communicate, and work as a team member requires a focused effort. The development of technical writing skills can lead to even better career opportunities.
The demand for technically literate people is increasing as older men and women leave the workforce. Demand is outstripping supply which in turn will result in our young people having stable employment opportunities throughout the course of their careers, not to mention the higher salaries that will inevitably be paid.
It is time to seize this opportunity and grow Mentor's skilled workforce.

Academic Improvement Plan
Our goal is for Mentor to regain recognition for our elite academics.
We believe this can only be accomplished by setting a deadline, using SMART goals:
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound
Setting a deadline ensures that our board and superintendent remain motivated
to the mission of prioritizing academic improvement.
What does this look like?
Reduce class sizes
Lightening the load of professional duties that go beyond ‘just teaching’
Give teachers a voice by creating policy protecting their job when participating in a round table that requires constructive criticism of the district
Give teachers the freedom to use programs or methods they have proven success with, as long as it meets standards
Provide out of classroom tools for families of struggling students to help avoid the academic ‘summer slide’
Support teachers' efforts to restore discipline and order in the classroom
Allow time for these changes to work...so placing a freeze on any new curriculum must be considered.

Issue 3 & Issue 4
We have always supported school levies. We acknowledge that Issues 3 & 4 are vital to the success of the district. We also understand that some voters, who always support school levies, are unhappy with the status quo and are considering voting no on both levies.
To those voters: we ask you not to punish our students and staff by voting no.
VOTE YES ON ISSUE 3 & ISSUE 4....and vote Ioppolo & Martello for school board
for the change you desire.

Statement and Speech
There are currently several social media posts made by a couple of malicious individuals in an attempt to misrepresent Rose Ioppolo’s position on a number of controversial issues relating to the Mentor School Board race. Portions of a video recording have been used out of the full context in order to support the views of opposing individuals running for school board who wish to promote their extreme liberal views and allow our children to be exposed to these views.
In this video, Rose responds to the question “What would you do if a teacher allows inappropriate, sexual behavior in class?” It is Rose’s view that teachers should report any inappropriate behavior, in accordance with school policy. To be clear, Rose has never witnessed this type of behavior as a substitute teacher, nor does she believe this is a problem in the district. The question in the video came from a citizen in attendance who indicated she had witnessed this behavior in a classroom. The question was asked, so Rose answered it.
In regard to rainbow safe spaces in classrooms, it is Rose’s view that every classroom in every building should be a safe space. Placing rainbow safe space signs on some classroom doors and not others, sends the message to students that some teachers are not approving or supportive. The district should send a message to students and families that ALL classrooms are safe. At no time has Rose made statements that suggest that any type of discrimination against LGBTQ+ students should be tolerated. Our opponents would like voters to think otherwise. They are wrong and do not deserve to be elected to the school board.
In this race, Rose and Gil Martello want to see Mentor schools restored to a focus on improving test scores and improved proficiency results throughout the system. All of this focus on exposing children to sexual/social issues is a major distraction to the Board. These individuals making these false posts are trying to influence this election by attacking Rose and Gil with personal animus and misrepresenting their views. Voters are seeing right through this and share our views that Mentor schools need to get back to the basics of education.
Let’s improve Mentor schools NOW and the best place to start is by electing Rose Ioppolo and Gil Martello. Our children deserve this now.
